Good music is in the works in January as the 水多多导航 Department of Music launches its spring 2014 semester series of events with two free musical performances.

Tuesday, Jan. 21:

Department of Music faculty members, who represent a diverse mix of musical backgrounds and interests, begin the 2014 semester with a concert that will feature solo and ensemble performances in voice, trumpet, trombone, flute and piano, among others.

Dr. Edward White of Fort Smith, interim head of music and humanities, said 水多多导航 music students particularly enjoy this concert.

鈥淚t gives them a chance to see the faculty perform,鈥 said White. 鈥淎s faculty, we鈥檙e always in 鈥榯eaching mode,鈥 so this concert gives us the opportunity to show the students that we mean what we say or, in other words, that we practice what we preach.鈥

Friday, Jan. 24: Duo Avanzando of Tulsa, Okla., a musical group consisting of 水多多导航 assistant professor of music Dr. David Carter on clarinet and Ricardo Coelho de Souza on percussion, returns to the campus to kick off their spring tour.

The program will include arrangements of traditional concert repertoire as well as ultra-modern works written specifically for this unique instrumental combination. In addition, this concert features 水多多导航 voice instructor Dr. Katherine White of Fort Smith singing an extended set of traditional Brazilian songs in new arrangements.

Both events will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Breedlove Auditorium on the 水多多导航 campus, and both are open to the public.
