Dr. Marian Azab is an assistant professor of sociology with interdisciplinary training
in sociology, gender studies, human rights, and quantitative methods. Her research
centers on race, gender, oppression, and emotions as they apply to resistance and
community engagement participation among minoritized groups. She examines how racialization,
patriarchy, oppression, and the emotions they generate shape the lived experiences
of marginalized populations in the United States and the Arab world and how marginalized
populations fight these injustices through social justice work.
In her teaching, Dr. Azab strives to provide a safe space that allows her students
the freedom to examine their unique social locations within the local, national, and
global communities and empowers them to achieve their educational goals and find their
places in their chosen careers. She teaches a variety of community-facing courses
such as Introduction to Sociology, Social Problems, Introduction to Diversity Studies,
Immigration, Medical Sociology, Social Inequalities, Race and Ethnic Studies, and
more.
